As part of the national curriculum, all children in Year 1 will take part in the Phonics Screening Check during the week beginning Monday, 9th June 2025. The Phonics Screening Check is a short, simple assessment that helps us confirm whether your child has learned to decode words using phonics to the expected standard.

To help you understand what the check involves and how you can support your child at home, we will be holding a Parent Information Session on Wednesday 14th May at 3:30.

During this session, we will explain the structure of the check, share examples of the types of words your child will be asked to read (including ‘nonsense’ or ‘alien’ words), and offer practical tips for phonics practice at home.

We strongly encourage all Year 1 parents and carers to attend, as your support makes a real difference in your child’s learning journey.

We have also been selected to work with the independent charity National Numeracy on an exciting project which encourages children and families to do maths together. We will be sharing our plans for how Year 1 are going to engage with the programme that works with primary schools to support families, so that pupils feel more positive about maths, and have greater awareness of the value of numeracy outside the classroom.
