Dear Parents and Carers,

I know that many of you have questions and concerns about the full reopening of school in September. The Government issued guidance to schools last week and this forms the basis of our plans. Until a vaccine becomes widely available, we need to adhere to the approach that has children organised into ‘bubbles’ to reduce all possible contacts between different groups. We also have to ensure that ‘social distancing’ is possible at school drop off and collection times. The easing of some restrictions will allow children access to a wider curriculum and to other services such as wrap-around care.

To embrace the safety guidance, I have drawn up a full reopening plan and risk assessment. (Both of these documents are on the school website alongside a link to the full Government guidance. Please see https://floweryfieldschool.org.uk/newsletters for copies of these.)

Flowery Field is Tameside’s largest primary school and this brings its’ own challenges in terms of crowds and the need to practise social distancing.

I have divided our school into three smaller ‘schools’ – School A, School B and School C. Each of these three schools has its own start and finish times and this allows for the staggering of break and lunchtimes. It is important that children and families stick to these times, as it will help prevent crowding. You can see which classes are in which ‘school’ in the timetable at the bottom of this letter.

To prevent families having to stand waiting for another ‘school’ to open, please bring all of your children at the time given to the youngest child. You will be able to collect them all together also at the end of the day – again using the finish time for your youngest child. Please leave the school site promptly, once you have collected your children and, if possible, restrict drop offs to one parent only.

The guidance prevents large gatherings within school. All assemblies and singing sessions will be ‘virtual’ with the children joining in from their classrooms. Likewise, the dining hall remains out of use and the children will be eating with their teacher in the classroom. I am negotiating with our caterers to include warm and hot options alongside the ‘grab bag’ system in place now. – Further details will follow as and when I get them. We also have a special offer for junior children’s lunch prices from September.

We will be having both morning and after school clubs, however, the need to protect ‘bubbles’ means that they will run differently than in previous years. I will share details of what is available in September.

Please wear your school uniforms from September and please put your child’s names into everything they wear, including coats, PE kits and lunchboxes.

‘Rainbows’ (our before and after school care provider) will be operating and all requests for places should be made directly with them.

We are all looking forward to welcoming the children back in September and to saying “hello” to those joining us for the first time. I am sure that, like me, we all wish life could just go back to ‘normal’. Although this is not yet possible, we are all determined to deliver a full curriculum to your children and maintain the high standards we have achieved over recent years.

Best wishes,

Mr Fell
