What an exciting week in school!
This week we have continued to focus on our school value of respect. Our assemblies have focused on the work of Martin Luther King Junior, we have spoken about injustice, equality and standing up for what you believe in. We continue to encourage our children to demonstrate respect in all they say and do and have spoken about the importance of speaking up and gaining support when needed. We are extremely proud of our little people who continue to work together to achieve great things.
On Monday, we launched our spring term after school clubs, it’s great to see so many children participating and trying out activities for the first time, especially our reception pupils. It’s great to see children having the opportunity to explore the arts through our Steel Pan and textiles clubs, whilst our younger pupils are enjoying participating in a range of activities at our Smile Club.
On Tuesday I had the pleasure of joining Y1 on their Flowery Field History walk, it was great to see the children’s enthusiasm for learning. We visited the site of the Ashton Brother’s Mill, Flowery Field Church, Cricket ground, colliery and the site of the Flowery Field Hotel. The children loved spotting the old road names such as Gair Street and Bryce Street named after Thomas Ashton’s family and of course visiting the site of the old Infant School. If anyone has any old photos or stories of life in Flowery Field our Y1 team would love to find out more.
On Thursday all children had the opportunity to watch ‘Snow White’, the children loved participating in the show and lots of fun was had by all! It was lovely to see our younger pupils involved in the show, special mention to Rebekah who bravely helped the Prince and Buttons rescue Snow White. Likewise, the children loved watching Mrs Silk, Mr Owens, Mr Al Ali and Mr Ridley take to the stage in this year’s dance off! Days like this create memories that will last a life time. Thank you to those who supported this year’s event,
I would like to thank all those families that have accessed the QR quizzes to help their children learn the key vocabulary for our current topic. These quizzes are essential in helping reinforce our learning in school and helping the children to retain key knowledge. The children will be showcasing this during our next communication events which take place during the final week of term. If anyone needs any help in accessing these please speak to your child’s class teacher or Mr Smith.
Wishing you a lovely and relaxing weekend
Kind regards
Mrs Silk

Parent Mental Health Day – 30th January 2026
Parent Mental Health Day (PMHD) takes place each year on 30th January. Created by Stem4, the day raises awareness of the vital link between parents’ and carers’ mental health and the wellbeing of the whole family. While PMHD is an important date in the calendar, the challenges parents and carers face are year-round. Supporting mental health is key to safeguarding children and promoting family resilience.
