What a lovely end to the half term!

Firstly, we would like to thank those families who have attended our communication event, I’m sure you were impressed with their enthusiasm for learning, depth of knowledge and their phenomenal oracy skills.  It was great to see the children using freeze frames, debates and story whooshes to demonstrate some of the techniques that help us learn.  Once again, we have set the children a QR quiz to help them remember their knowledge, alongside some creative challenges. We look forward to seeing their creations on our return to school.

This week we have marked Children’s Mental Health Week in school.  Our assemblies have focused on belonging and helping others feel welcome in school.  Many classes have explored this theme within their classrooms, drawing pictures and making presentations of where they feel they belong.  We are proud of the way our children have embraced this, encouraging others to play, engaging in conversation with new people or simply showing they care.

Next week several of our families will be marking the Lunar New Year with their families and friends.  We know what a special time of year this is for many of you.  Last year many families visited the famous Dragon Parade which takes place this weekend in Manchester’s China Town.  The parade starts from the junction of Oxford Road and George Street. dance, drumming, dancers and acrobatic performances. The parade weaves through central Manchester before reaching Chinatown, where a final performance brings all the energy and colour together. We wish all those celebrating, Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Next week is also a special time of year for our Muslim families, who will be marking the start of Ramadan.  This is a month of fasting, prayer and charity.  Ramadan is a special time of year when families break their fasts together, share meals and engage in activities of kindness.  Wishing all our families celebrating, Ramadan Kareem!  We recognise that this year, Lent also takes place at the same time as Ramadan, which is a period of fasting and reflection for our Christian families and would like to send our best wishes to these families too. As in previous years, we will be supporting all pupils who are fasting during this time, with a designated space for prayer and reflection.  Please can we ask families to notify the office if your child will be participating. As in previous years, children across school will be carrying out acts of kindness throughout the month before celebrating Eid Ul Fitr and Easter as a community.

On Wednesday 25th February, our Flowery Friends team will be meeting to plan our next events.  As you are aware we have had to reduce our offer due to the limited number of volunteers.  We are looking for volunteers to support our Mothers’ Day Craft events, Easter Bingo and our family Eid celebrations.  Unfortunately, these events will be unable to go ahead without further support.  If you are available to support these events or can help in the planning and preparation of these events, please attend our next meeting or contact the school office: admin@floweryfieldschool.org.uk

Finally, we would like to congratulate our football team who participated in the Y3/4  Sports First Football Tournament at Longendale Football Centre. Despite, being a player down and extremely testing conditions, our team emerged victorious, taking 1st place! Well done to all!

Wishing you a lovely and relaxing half term.

Kind regards

Mrs Silk

School Meals

In preparation for our new term, our new Spring/Summer menu is now available within the My Child at School App.  We have asked us to remind all families to ensure all school meals are booked through the app.  Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in food waste and lack of availability of food.  It is essential that all families secure their child’s meal through the app.  Please contact the office if you need support with this.

Breakfast Provision

Following the half term break, any children entering school prior to 8 45 need to be booked on our breakfast provision through the MCAS app. This service remains free of charge, but booking ensures appropriate staffing and food preparation each day. Early drop off is only available for families requiring support with breakfast. Please can we remind all other pupils to enter through their classroom doors and KS2 pupils to line up on their allocated playground. Families requiring early drop off are able to access Flowery Fun from 7 30, these sessions are chargeable and cost £5 per session.
