What a lovely end to the half term!
This week, I have had the pleasure of attending the Y4 residentials to Mellor Country house, the behaviour of the Y4 children has been impeccable, everyone we have met during the residentials has commented on the children’s manners. The children have been extremely helpful, supporting and encouraging each other to be the best that they can be. I am extremely proud of the way the children have overcome their fears, many sleeping away from home for the first time. Likewise, I am extremely grateful to the staff who have supported this event, generously giving up their time to make this possible.
On Wednesday, our celebration of National Numeracy Day was a fantastic success, bringing maths to life through practical and engaging activities. This year’s theme, “Count on Your Community,” was perfectly reflected in our Year 6 mini enterprise projects. The event not only reinforced key numeracy skills but also helped pupils see the real world relevance of maths in a fun and interactive way. Pupils demonstrated creativity, teamwork and strong mathematical understanding as they planned and ran a variety of stalls and activities for children across school. All the money raised will be used to support our Y6 leaver events.
Following this, our Uganda Day on Thursday proved to be a powerful experience for the entire school community. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting education in Uganda, pupils spent the day learning about the country’s culture, traditions, and daily life. One of the highlights of the day was the sharing of a special song and dance, which pupils had worked hard to learn. This will be shared with children in Uganda, helping to build a meaningful connection and sense of unity across continents. We raised a phenomenal £395 which will contribute towards improving education and opportunities for children overseas.
As we celebrate the end of this half term’s learning, we would like to thank those parents that attended our Early Years and Key Stage 1 “Celebrating Learning” events. These sessions provided a wonderful opportunity for children to proudly share their work, demonstrate their progress, and talk about their learning experiences. It was lovely to see such enthusiasm from both pupils and their families, and the positive conversations. Thank you to all who attended and for your continued support in helping our children reinforce their learning at home.
During the summer term, children across school will continue taking part in geography fieldwork as part of their learning. Geography fieldwork is when children explore and investigate the world around them outside of the classroom. This could include observing places, collecting information, carrying out surveys, studying maps, or exploring how people and environments interact. With the lovely weather forecast, we would love this learning to continue over the holidays as part of the children’s home learning. We have identified a few activities below that children could complete:
• Visiting a museum, landmark, park or beach
• Going on a local walk and identifying human and physical features
• Conducting a land-use survey in your local area
• Using maps to plan or follow a route
• Comparing different places you visit
• Taking photographs of interesting geographical features
• Spotting different types of housing, transport or shops
• Looking at rivers, hills, coastlines or green spaces
• Creating a simple map of your local area or a place you visit
• Using a compass or directions while out and about
We would love to continue raising the profile of geography across school and would be delighted to see what the children get up to over the holidays. Please send any photos to admin@floweryfieldschool.org.uk so these can be shared in school.
Finally, we would like to send our best wishes to some of our children who will be completing their sponsored walk this weekend to raise money for Lila’s Light. On Sunday 24th, they are doing a 10km sponsored walk from Marple bridge ending at The King William IV in Newton where there will be family fun day. All families welcome.
Thank you for your continued support and we hope you enjoy the sunshine!
